Payment checklist
- Cards and contactless payments are common in Lithuanian cities, but small euro cash is useful for markets, rural areas, small vendors, public toilets, lockers, tips and backup situations.
- Cards are widely accepted in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, hotels, restaurants and many formal businesses, but visitors should keep a backup card and not assume every small vendor or rural stop accepts cards.
- Mobile wallets often work where contactless is accepted, but visitor access to local apps, phone battery, roaming and connectivity can still create friction.
- ATMs are available in cities and transport hubs, but plan cash before rural areas, late arrivals, seaside trips, the Curonian Spit or regional travel.
- Tipping is modest and context-dependent; small tips for good restaurant or taxi service may be appreciated, but check the setting and keep small euro notes or coins available.
- Decide before landing whether you need Euro (EUR) before leaving Vilnius Airport (VNO).
